Rates for residential properties
When you acquire residential property, such as a home or flat, you typically pay Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) on rising percentages of the property price. SDLT only applies to attributes with values greater than a specific threshold.
The price you pay is determined by the following factors:
- moment you purchased the house
- how much did it cost you?
To figure out how much tax you'll have to pay, use the SDLT calculator.
If you spend more than £40,000 for a property, you must file an SDLT return, even if no SDLT is owed. There are a few exceptions to this rule.
